The Google Business Profile Checklist for Generator Dealers

By Andrew Brockenbush · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear in the three-pack, and the three-pack takes the majority of outage-driven calls. Here is the checklist we run on every new dealer account.

Categories

  • Primary category chosen to match how homeowners search for standby installation, not a generic electrical category.
  • Secondary categories added for the adjacent services you genuinely sell.
  • No category padding. Irrelevant categories water down your relevance.

Services and products

  • Every service listed with a written description: whole-home standby installation, transfer switch installation, load calculations, maintenance plans, warranty service.
  • Products populated with the brands and unit sizes you actually carry.
  • Service areas defined by the counties and cities you will drive to.

Photos and posts

  • Real install photos, geotagged and added every month.
  • Team and truck photos so the profile looks like a real company.
  • Posts tied to season and events: pre-storm readiness, maintenance reminders, financing.

Reviews and Q&A

  • Review requests automated after every completed install.
  • Every review answered within one business day.
  • Q&A seeded with the questions you answer on the phone ten times a week: cost, sizing, fuel type, install timeline, permits.

The part everyone skips

Consistency. A profile updated in a burst and then abandoned for eight months loses ground to a competitor posting monthly. Put it on a calendar or hand it to someone who will.
